WATER RATES 2024

Councilman WATKINS was instrumental in changing the way water usage is billed in the City of Shasta Lake.  All customers now pay a set monthly fee based on the size of their water meter and a uniform rate for each gallon of water consumed.   Previously the City had tiered rates which were created to force water conservation so more water would be available in Southern California.

Effective July 1, all customers pay the same rate of $2.85 for each hundred cubic feet (hcf), used which is 750 gallons.   Tiered rates were patently wrong.  Tiered rates do not exist at the gas station.  All drivers pay the same amount  for each gallon of gas.  The first gallon pumped and the last gallon cost the same.   Why should City water be any different?

There was considerable mis-information regarding the change in water billing suggesting it would be a Flat Rate where every customer would pay the same each month regardless of the amount used.   This was totally false.
